In a historic step towards international academic collaboration, India is set to launch its first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Nigeria — the first in West Africa — by 2026.
The new campus will be established at the Federal Government Academy in Suleja, through a partnership between the Government of India and Nigeria’s Ministry of Education. The initiative aims to strengthen educational and technological cooperation between the two nations.
India will provide academic and faculty support, while Nigeria will handle infrastructure and local operations. The campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering and technology, modeled on IIT’s globally renowned curriculum.
This move follows the success of IIT Madras’ international campus in Zanzibar, aligning with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes global outreach of Indian higher education.
Officials say the Nigeria campus will serve as a regional hub for innovation, research, and skill development, empowering Africa’s next generation of tech leaders while deepening Indo-African educational ties.
