Lucknow, July 2025 — In a major reform for higher education, Uttar Pradesh will roll out the Samarth portal across all state universities and affiliated colleges starting the 2025–26 academic session, marking a key milestone in the state’s digital transformation of administration and academic governance.
The integrated platform will manage essential university processes—faculty promotions, student admissions, salary disbursements, examination management, and research grants—centralizing what were once fragmented systems into a single efficient interface .
Why Samarth Matters
- Unified ERP replacement: By the end of 2025, all private education ERP systems will be phased out in favor of the Samarth portal, reducing administrative burdens and promoting consistency across institutions .
- Transparent promotions for faculty: Teachers can now apply online under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), with real-time tracking ensuring fair and accountable selection processes .
- Streamlined admissions: From July 2025, all undergraduate and postgraduate admissions in government institutions will occur through a centralized student registration portal, which is already undergoing successful trial runs .
- Research and seminars simplified: A separate portal is under development to manage academic grants, research projects, awards, and seminars—empowering faculty and researchers with easier access to institutional support .
Uttar Pradesh’s higher education minister, Dr. Yogendra Upadhyay, characterized Samarth as a defining step towards realizing the vision of Digital India, positioning the state as a benchmark in quality and transparency in higher education .
On-the-Ground Implementation
All public universities and affiliated colleges in the state have already registered on Samarth, deploying modules for payroll processing, leave management, examinations, and admissions .
Governor Anandiben Patel, Chancellor of UP’s universities, urged campuses to ensure 100% data entry compliance, actively promoting portal use via workshops like “Samarth se Samarthya” at institutions including AKTU Lucknow .
Institutions such as Siddharth University have established dedicated help desks in affiliated colleges to guide students through registration and onboarding on the portal; similarly, regional workshops throughout May 2025 cleared data entry bottlenecks for faculty across dozens of colleges .
At Prayagraj, over 12,000 teachers have uploaded data related to their academic activities—53,576 research papers and 709 research projects—while more than 390 staff members initiated the CAS process via Samarth
