The University Grants Commission (UGC), under the Ministry of Education, has officially announced the IKS (Indian Knowledge Systems) Institutional Internship Programme 2026–27, aimed at encouraging young scholars to engage in in-depth research on India’s rich civilisational and knowledge traditions.
The programme is designed to provide structured research exposure to students and young researchers who are interested in exploring Indian Knowledge Systems across disciplines such as philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, architecture, linguistics, arts, culture, and indigenous technologies. Interns can undertake research either during summer breaks or throughout the academic year, depending on institutional norms and project scope.
A key objective of the IKS Internship is to revive, document, interpret, and innovate upon traditional Indian knowledge, while promoting academic work in Bharatiya Bhashas (Indian languages). Selected candidates will be attached to recognised institutions, research centres, or mentors working in the IKS domain, enabling hands-on learning and scholarly contribution.
The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the integration of Indian knowledge traditions into mainstream education and research. By supporting young minds at an early stage, the programme aims to build a strong academic ecosystem for indigenous research and interdisciplinary scholarship.
