In a significant step towards strengthening women-focused policy research in India, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched the “Shakti Scholars: NCW Young Research Fellowship”. The initiative aims to encourage young scholars to conduct evidence-based research on critical issues impacting women across the country.
The fellowship has been officially reported by DD News and News On Air, both under Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster, lending credibility and national importance to the programme.
What Is the Shakti Scholars Fellowship?
The Shakti Scholars Fellowship is a six-month research programme designed to promote multidisciplinary, policy-oriented research that can contribute directly to gender-responsive governance and social reform.
Selected scholars will receive financial support of ₹1 lakh to carry out focused research aligned with NCW’s priority areas.

Applicants can propose research on a wide range of women-centric subjects, including:
- Women’s safety, dignity, and security
- Gender-based violence and legal safeguards
- Access to justice and legal awareness
- Cyber safety and online harassment
- Health, nutrition, and mental well-being
- Education, skill development, and employability
- Economic empowerment and workforce participation
- Socio-cultural practices and work-life balance
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
- Indian citizens aged 21 to 30 years
- Minimum qualification: Graduate degree from a recognised institution
- Preference given to:
- Postgraduate students
- Research scholars
- Independent researchers with strong research proposals
