NEET has become highly competitive, with lakhs of students competing for limited seats, leading to intense pressure, long preparation hours, and mental health concerns. Many students repeat the exam multiple times or invest heavily in coaching, making it difficult for those from underprivileged backgrounds.
While a single national exam ensures standardization, it may not fully reflect a student’s potential. India should explore balanced alternatives—like multi-stage assessments, board exam weightage, or aptitude-based screening—to reduce pressure and make medical education more inclusive and holistic.
