Many students choose courses without clarity on career goals. Are school counsellors trained enough to provide real career guidance, or is it still just a checkbox?

Career counselling in schools can be effective, but in many cases in India, it’s still underdeveloped or inconsistent. Some schools offer strong guidance with trained counsellors and aptitude testing, but many lack resources or updated career knowledge.
To truly guide students, counselling needs to be personalized, skill-based, and informed about modern career trends—not just limited to traditional options like engineering or medicine. Improving access to trained counsellors and integrating career awareness early in education can make it much more effective.
