A beginner should start UPSC prep by understanding the exam pattern and syllabus. Begin with NCERT books (Class 6–12) for basics, read a daily newspaper like The Hindu or Indian Express, and follow monthly current affairs. Practice answer writing, solve previous year papers, and gradually build a study routine before choosing optional subjects.
