New Delhi, September 8, 2025 — The NEET UG admission process for 2025 is heating up with fresh developments. From the launch of Round 2 counselling to rising seat availability and state-level hurdles, here’s your one-stop update on where aspiring medical students stand today.

Key Developments in NEET UG Admissions

  • Round 2 Counselling Begins
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has opened registration and choice filling for NEET UG 2025 Round 2 from September 4 to 9. This phase provides candidates who were unallotted or wish to upgrade their seats another chance to secure MBBS, BDS, or BSc Nursing seats. Critical facilities like PwD certificate generation and registration reset are already active.
  • Thousands of New Seats Added
The MCC released the updated Round 2 seat matrix on September 5. A total of 1,134 additional MBBS and BDS seats and Vacancy Counts (7,088 Virtual Vacancies and 13,501 Clear Vacancies) were introduced nationwide. This includes new medical colleges, institutional seats, and regulatory approvals.
  • State-Level Expansions Accelerate
In Madhya Pradesh, recent approval has increased the state’s MBBS seats to over 5,050, thanks to additional seats in Bundelkhand, Chhindwara, and two new colleges—Singrauli and Sheopur.
In Rajasthan, the NMC has sanctioned two new government medical colleges (Jaisalmer and Tonk), each with 50 MBBS seats. This expansion pushes Rajasthan’s total MBBS seats from 2,750 in 2017 to 5,768 in 2025–26.
  • Counselling Disruption in West Bengal
The West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) has indefinitely suspended NEET UG counselling for MBBS and BDS programs—affecting over 11,000 aspirants—following a High Court intervention. A fresh schedule is awaited.
  • Round 1 Final Results Released
MCC has declared the Round 1 seat allotment final results. Allocated students must now report to their respective colleges. Students who remain unallocated are still eligible for Round 2.
