New Delhi | Maharashtra Civic Polls 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday described the outcome of Maharashtra’s municipal council and nagar panchayat elections as a decisive endorsement of development-focused governance, following the sweeping victory of the ruling Mahayuti alliance. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for reposing their trust in the BJP-led alliance and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to people-centric development.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated that Maharashtra had “stood firmly behind development” and said the verdict reflected public confidence in the Mahayuti’s vision of inclusive growth. He assured citizens that the government would work with renewed energy to fulfil the aspirations of every individual across the state and praised BJP and Mahayuti workers for their dedication at the grassroots level.

According to preliminary trends, the Mahayuti alliance secured a dominant position in elections held across 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the BJP created a record by winning nearly 48 per cent of councillor seats on the party symbol, with BJP candidates elected as presidents in 129 municipal councils. He added that Mahayuti nominees clinched leadership positions in nearly 75 per cent of local bodies.

Union Ministers JP Nadda and Amit Shah also congratulated NDA workers, calling the verdict a reflection of public trust in welfare-oriented policies and the double-engine government model at the Centre and state levels. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the mandate strengthened democracy and reaffirmed faith in transparent, accountable governance at the local level.

Meanwhile, opposition parties Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged irregularities in the conduct of elections, accusing the State Election Commission of bias. Despite these claims, the ruling alliance maintained that the victory was driven by its development agenda, organisational strength, and effective local leadership.

The final results are awaited as the State Election Commission is yet to issue an official notification.
