Bengaluru, September 25, 2025 — In a move set to transform the skill-landscape of the state, Karnataka has officially approved its first Skill Development Policy, covering the period 2025-2032. The policy, cleared by the state Cabinet, comes with an outlay of ₹4,432.5 crore and aims to make Karnataka a premier hub of skilled talent, aligning with its vision of becoming a US$1 trillion economy by 2032.
Highlights of Karnataka’s Policy
- Integrated Approach: Brings all skilling schemes under one framework, avoiding duplication across departments.
- AI & Digital Push: Plans to use digital platforms and AI tools for training, career guidance, and monitoring.
- Vocational Education: Introduces credit-based vocational courses in schools and colleges.
- Industry Connect: Focus on apprenticeships and upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with industry partnerships.
- Inclusive Focus: Dedicated measures for women, marginalized communities, differently-abled youth, and rural students.
- Financial Backing: Around ₹1,386 crore of the funds will come from an Asian Development Bank loan.
Karnataka’s new policy marks a significant pivot in how skill training is viewed: not as a peripheral activity, but as central to economic growth, educational reform, and social equity. If executed well, it could become a model for other states grappling with similar skill gaps.
