The Indian Army has announced the opening of applications for the Short Service Commission (SSC) Technical Entry – 66th Men and Women Course, scheduled to commence in April 2026 at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. The SSC Technical entry offers engineering graduates an opportunity to join the Indian Army as commissioned officers and serve the nation with pride.


About the SSC Technical Entry

The SSC (Technical) entry is specifically designed for engineering graduates, allowing them to apply their technical knowledge in various Corps and Services of the Indian Army. Candidates selected through this entry undergo training at OTA, followed by a tenure of 10 years of Short Service Commission, extendable to 14 years, with the option to apply for a permanent commission based on performance and vacancies.


Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Engineering graduates (B.E/B.Tech) in relevant disciplines.
  • Final-year engineering students may also apply, provided they can submit proof of graduation before the course begins.

Age Limit

  • Candidates must be between 20 and 27 years as of the course commencement date.

Gender

  • Both Men and Women are eligible to apply under the SSC Technical category.

Selection Process

The selection is conducted in the following stages:

1. Shortlisting by the Indian Army

Applications are shortlisted based on academic performance and discipline-wise requirements.

2. SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates will receive call letters for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, which evaluates leadership potential, personality, psychology, and physical fitness.

3. Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by SSB must undergo a medical test to assess fitness for commissioning.

4. Final Merit List

A merit list is prepared based on SSB performance and medical fitness. Final selections are subject to vacancy availability.

The SSC Technical entry typically includes engineering branches such as:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical/Electronics Engineering
  • Computer Science

  • And other allied technical branches as specified in the notification.

Training

Selected candidates will undergo 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. The training is designed to develop physical endurance, leadership qualities, and military discipline.
