Guwahati, August 2025:
In a move aimed at encouraging young doctors to serve in underserved regions, the Department of Medical Education (DME), Assam has announced incentive marks for NEET PG 2025 aspirants who have completed government service in remote and difficult areas of the state.

According to the notification, doctors who have rendered one year of continuous service in such designated areas will receive 3% additional marks in their NEET PG score. The benefit will be extended up to a maximum of 9%, rewarding those who have worked for three years or more.

Applications for claiming these incentive marks are open from August 23 to September 6, 2025. Eligible doctors can submit their details to the DME, Assam, along with service certificates for verification.

“This step recognizes the hard work of doctors who choose to serve in challenging terrains. It will encourage more medical graduates to take up rural postings while also supporting their postgraduate career growth,” a senior DME official said.

The incentive marks will be applicable during the state counselling process for NEET PG 2025 admissions and could play a decisive role in securing specialized medical seats.

With this move, Assam joins the list of states adopting service-linked incentives in postgraduate medical admissions, aligning with national policies to bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide.
