In a landmark move to strengthen higher education infrastructure, the Government of Assam has announced the establishment of 10 new Government Model Colleges that will begin operations from the 2025–26 academic session. This initiative is aimed at promoting inclusive access to quality education, especially in rural and underserved areas across the state. 

With this expansion, Assam is reinforcing its commitment to educational equity and preparing the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed for a competitive future. 

🏫 List of the 10 New Government Model Colleges 

The following colleges have been approved and will soon be operational under the academic jurisdiction of various state universities: 

  1. Government Model Women’s College, Hailakandi 
  1. Government Model Women’s College, Harisinga (Udalguri) 
  1. Government Model Degree College, Chirang 
  1. Government Model Degree College, Majuli 
  1. Government Model Degree College, Borsola (Sonitpur) 
  1. Government Model Women’s Degree College, Mangaldai 
  1. Government Model Women’s Degree College, Golakganj (Dhubri) 
  1. Government Model Degree College, Majar Alga (Dhubri) 
  1. Government Model College, Lahorighat (Morigaon) 
  1. Government Model College, Samaguri (Nagaon) 

These colleges will be affiliated with leading universities such as Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Assam University, and Bodoland University, depending on their respective locations. 

📚 Academic Programs Offered 

Each institution will offer undergraduate degree programs in the following streams: 

  • Science 
  • Commerce 
  • Humanities 

The curriculum will be designed to align with current academic standards and industry expectations, ensuring students are equipped with both foundational knowledge and career-ready skills. 

With an expected enrollment capacity exceeding 200,000 students, this initiative marks a significant leap in Assam’s efforts to expand access to higher education.
